Washing a down jacket with this filler in a washing machine
Outerwear with holofiber is comfortable to wear and attractive.
So that your favorite thing does not lose its original qualities, you need to know what are the rules for the care of outerwear with this synthetic filler.
The advantage of holofiber lies not only in its heat-saving qualities and softness, but also in unpretentiousness.
Therefore, jackets filled with such material can be safely washed in the washing machine. The main thing is to choose the correct washing mode and temperature.
For a better wash (especially if the jacket is heavily soiled), it is recommended to perform the procedure in the following order:
- Pour warm water into a large basin and dissolve in it detergent with a special liquid gel for washing delicate items.
- Immerse the jacket in the solution for at least 20-30 minutes.
- Then take a soft brush and brush the sleeves, collars, pockets and other heavily soiled areas. If necessary, you can additionally rub these places with laundry soap.
- Now wring out the jacket and place it in the drum.
- Next, you will need to set the delicate mode, select the "double rinse" option and the enhanced spin mode.
- After removing the jacket from the drum, gently shake it to straighten the holofiber inside.
To prevent the filler from rolling into the washing machine together with the jacket recommended to download special balls made of polyvinyl chloride... If they are not available, you can put several regular tennis balls in the drum.
As for the temperature regime, the holofiber is able to withstand temperatures up to 90 degrees. Despite this, you should not rush to set a high temperature, since the material from which the jacket itself is sewn may have certain restrictions on care.
So, some materials are afraid of too high temperatures, others do not tolerate intensive spinning. Therefore, before washing you must first of all carefully study the information on the label regarding the requirements for washing and drying.
The most common materials used for sewing jackets and down jackets are:
- polyester,
- raincoat fabric,
- bolognese,
- membrane tissues.
Polyester
Products made from polyester, rather unpretentious, not prone to fading and loss of gloss. They dry quickly and are stain resistant. But it should be borne in mind that the washing temperature of such material should not exceed 40 C.
Raincoat fabric
Outerwear made of raincoat fabric has good air permeability, and at the same time does not allow moisture to pass through.
It retains heat well, does not lose color and is not prone to deformation. The temperature of washing clothes from raincoat fabric should be 40-45 С.
It is not recommended to use an intensive spin, as this can lead to the formation of creases, which are very difficult to get rid of. It is also prohibited to use bleaches and other aggressive substances.
Bologna
Bologna is highly sensitive to any external influences, therefore, it is impossible to machine wash jackets made of such fabric.
After washing, the product should be lightly squeezed by hand and hung over the bathto glass all the water. It is recommended to dry bologna jackets in a straightened form using a trempel.
Membrane fabric
Membrane jackets do not let water through, and at the same time breathe well, allowing steam to escape.
The outer side of the fabric is treated with water-repellent impregnations based on silicone or Teflon.
The main task when washing such products is prevent damage to the water-repellent treatment.
To do this, it is necessary to wash on a delicate cycle at a temperature of up to 40 ͦС. The spinning and drying modes are not allowed.
It is recommended to use only liquid washing powderssince abrasives can clog the pores of the membranes.
How to wash by hand?
In the process hand wash the most important thing is to rinse out the detergent well from the holofiber. This is to prevent the formation of soap streaks on the fabric after it dries.
The washing process is performed in this order:
- Fill the bath with warm water (approximately 30-35 ͦC).
- Dissolve washing powder in water. The more dirty the item is, the more powder you need.
Manufacturers of washing powders always indicate on the packaging how much detergent needs to be added for a certain amount of water.
- Then immerse the jacket in a bath with soapy water so that it is completely saturated with water.
- After 20-30 minutes, you can start washing the product. This can be done with a brush or sponge.
- Next, you need to rinse the jacket in clean water at least 2-3 times, gently wring it out with your hands and shake it slightly.
When washing clothes made of membrane fabrics, use a powder specially designed for such fabrics. It is recommended to wash clothes made of raincoat fabric, bologna and polyester with powder for delicate washing. In this case, it is desirable to use the drug in the form of a gel.
However, you should first read the information on the tag and make sure that this product can be cleaned with a stain remover. Otherwise, it is better to use a dry cleaning service to remove the stain..
Proper drying and ironing
A washed and wrung-out item can be hang to dry on a trempel, or in the usual way, on a clothesline.
It is strictly forbidden to use a heating battery or an electric radiator for drying.as this could damage the clothes.
It is better to dry down jackets and jackets made of membrane fabric by spreading them out in a special dryer for clothes - this will prevent deformation of the product.
The room in which the item is being dried must be well ventilated.... Otherwise, it may acquire an unpleasant odor, which will have to be washed again to eliminate it.
What to do if the filler is out of shape?
Despite the excellent wear resistance and good performance properties, over time, after repeated washings, the holofiber can still cake and deform.
You can return your favorite clothes to their previous attractive appearance using several methods:
- Wash the item in the washing machine with at least 6-10 tennis balls in the drum.
During the rotation of the drum, they will beat the filler well and make it more voluminous.
It should be noted that this method is not suitable for very large jackets with a thick layer of insulation.
- Using nail scissors or a special sewing device, gently rip open the seams, separating the lining from the top of the down jacket.
Then remove the insulation and brush it with an animal brush. In the absence of such a brush, you can fluff the holofiber with your hands.
Then you need to put it back and sew the ripped seams using a sewing machine.
- If, after removing the filler, it turns out that it has completely lost its shape and cannot be restored, you can purchase a new holofiber at a needlework store. The procedure for replacing insulation can also be performed by experienced craftsmen in any sewing atelier.
conclusions
Holofiber is quite durable and unpretentious material, which allows you to easily wash jackets with such insulation, both in washing machines and by hand.
The only thing worth paying attention to before washing is the fabric from which the top of the down jacket is made or jackets. The choice of the washing mode, detergent and drying method depends entirely on the type of this fabric.
Hollofiber is the trade name (brand, if you will) of a new generation of clothing insulation. However, products with natural branded insulation cannot be found in the daytime with fire, and most of what is presented in retail chains with holofiber is a fake and does not correspond to the declared parameters.
Everything that has been written about holofiber in terms of heat-saving properties, softness and lightness is really so! The rest is complete crap !!! At the very first wash of the product, the holofiber crumples (!) And leaves big gaps in the insulation of the jacket! And since the manufacturer often does not bother with the quilted type of cells and makes huge cells, the holofiber crumples even during wear, especially in places of frequent contact with hard surfaces and on bends! It's easy to check. Spread your jacket on the table and run your hand over your back ... You will feel that there is simply no insulation in some places! He ran to the edges of the cell ... Everything that is written about washing at home using balls (as for a natural down jacket) does not work in this case !!! Remember - holofiber, if it's already going to clump, then you can't fluff it back, it's proven !!! So, friends, do not save money and buy natural down jackets with a composition of 90/10, or at worst 80/20. No money for a down jacket, take a synthetic winterizer. But not holofiber, as 90% of it can be a "one-time thing"! I wish you all warmth and success!
